Interior Ministry Detains 72 Drug Dealers in Six Months

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia says that 72 drugs dealers have been detained and charged over the course of past six months.

The ministry says that especially large quantities of drugs have been seized from foreign nationals and Georgian citizens.

The Interior Ministry stated that four Iranian citizens have been detained, who were trying to smuggle heroin and other drugs in Georgia in especially large quantities.

“The individuals have been charged and now face 8-20 years in prison or life imprisonment,” the Interior Ministry says.

“Fighting against drug crimes and drug dealing is one of the key priorities for the Interior Ministry of Georgia,” the ministry said. Our goal is to maximally decrease the negative effect caused by drug consumption,” the ministry added.

The statistics of the past six months reads that the Georgian law enforcers over the course of the past six months have seized:

13 kg of heroin.

7,000 pills of subutex and suboxone.

1 kg and 300 gr of cocaine.

Up to 2kn MDMA.

650gr new psychoactive substances.

Up to 1kg psychotropic substances.
