Verdi International Festival to take place in Georgia

Georgia will have official right to hold Verdi Festival.

A contract was signed by Badri Maisuradze, Art Director of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater and Verdi International Festival which takes place annually in Parma (Italy).

According to the agreement, Georgia is entitled to conduct the Verdi Festival in Tbilisi and various cities officially.

The agreement also includes the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater tours at Verdi Festival.

Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre’s tours to Parma and Busseto will take place within the frames of the project.

The project is part of the European Union program "Creative Europe,” which is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia and European Commission and provides free advice to cultural actors and audiovisual professionals wishing to apply for Creative Europe funding opportunities.

Every year, in October, the Verdi Festival celebrates the Maestro born in Roncole di Busseto, in the province of Parma, at the Regio Theatre of Parma and in Verdi's lands.

Giuseppe Verdi was an Italian opera composer. Verdi came to dominate the Italian opera scene after the era of Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti, and Gioachino Rossini, whose works significantly influenced him. By his 30s, he had become one of the pre-eminent opera composers in history.

Verdi produced many successful operas, including La Traviata and Aida.

The press conference on the festival took place on August 23 at Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The conference was led by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Mikheil Giorgadze,

The event was attended by Badri Maisuradze and the president of Verdi Festival and director of Parma Opera Theatre, Anna Maria Meo.
