Azymuth to perform in Tbilisi

By Mariam Chanishvili
Friday, August 31
Brazilian jazz-funk trio – Azymuth - formed in 1973, will perform in Georgia on September 28.

Azymuth concert is brought and presented by Lyra Entertainment.

Today, the members of the band feature Alex Malheiros, Ivan Conti and Kiko Continentino.

Classically trained and initially influenced by pianists Bill Evans and Luiz Eca (of the Tamba 4), Bertrami worked with Flora Purim and Robertinho Silva before meeting Conti at a Rio nightclub.

The band has also worked with Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, George Duke and others.

Since the mid-1990s, they have released albums on the London-based Far Out Recordings label, and continue to tour in Europe.

Azymuth creates a psychedelic jazz architecture, a cosmic Funk and overwhelming Groove, music without borders, which leads souls to the mystical world through dance moves of the body.

The concert will take place at Republic in Tbilisi, which is a horizontally stretched four-story building hosting three different venues ranging from several modern event spaces to an upscale gourmet Seafood restaurant with a rooftop terrace.
