Russian Orthodox Church parish not to be able to worship on Mount Athos

After the decision of the Russian Patriarchate, the parish of the Russian Orthodox Church will not be able to pray at Mount Athos. The latter is linked to the cutting off connections with the Constantinople World Patriarchate by the Russian Church.

As Echo Msk reported, the press secretary of the Russian Patriarch, Alexander Volkov made a statement on the above-mentioned decision and added that until the reinstatement of the Union, Russian Orthodox Christians cannot participate in religious rituals of any church of Constantinople.

The Constantinople Patriarchate's recognized Ukraine's Orthodox Church as an independent. The decision was made on October 15.

Bartholomew I of Constantinople, the “first among equals” of Eastern Orthodox clerics, granted autocephaly (independence) to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Ukrainian government had lobbied for autocephaly as part of a larger break from Russian influence in the country’s affairs.

Mount Athos is a mountain and peninsula in northeastern Greece and an important center of Eastern Orthodox monasticism. It is governed as an autonomous polity within the Greek Republic. Mount Athos is home to 20 monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.
