The European Union will boost finances for its Erasmus+ program, for education, training, youth and sports, and will allocate additional six million euros to allow more Georgians receive scholarships and go abroad.
“Considering the high demand for Erasmus+ projects and scholarships, the EU has announced a so-called Special Funding Window for Georgia for the next two years. This means an additional EUR 6 Million for the two upcoming calls in 2019 and 2020.
“Additional Erasmus+ budget means more support to the quality of higher education in Georgia and up to 800 more scholarships for students and university staff,” EU in Georgia reported.
The decision was announced on 18 October by the National Erasmus+ Office in Georgia on the traditional Erasmus+ Info Days in Tbilisi.
These events inform about the opportunities the programme gives to universities, professors and students. This year the European Union is committing additional budget to Georgia, which will enable the implementation of more projects and increases significantly number of available scholarships,” EU in Georgia says.
The event was opened by Carl Hartzell, ambassador of the European Union, Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Mikhail Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia.
Erasmus+ is the EU programme 2014-2020. Active in Georgia since 2015, Erasmus+ has replaced previous educational programmes (Tempus, Erasmus Mundus Action 2) funded by the EU.
Georgia is one of the most successful Erasmus+ countries with a high number of projects and scholarships, EU in Georgia reports.
