Georgian PM congratulates Turkey on Republic Day

On the Republic Day of Turkey, the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze congratulated Fatma Ceren Yazgan, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Turkey to Georgia.

He spoke about regional and historic projects jointly implemented by Georgia and Turkey, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE), Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars BTK, noting that he is thrilled to have participated in the BTK.

"We regard Turkey as our strategic friend. At the same time, it is an idea of our international aspirations as Georgia strives to become a full member of NATO and Turkey is a big supporter of us in this endeavor. Hence, ladies and gentlemen, I once again wish to congratulate our Turkish friends on the Republic Day and wish them all the best. Friends, I wish you peace and prosperity," the prime minister said.

The Republic Day of Turkey is one of the public holidays in Turkey commemorating the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. It lasts 35 hours, starting each year at 1:00 pm on 28 October.

The holiday commemorates the events of 29 October 1923, when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared that Turkey was henceforth a republic.



Ukrainian MP on Saakashvili’s plans

Ukrainian Supreme Rada deputy, Yuri Derevianko said that the Former President of Georgia and former Odessa Governor Mikheil Saakashvili is going to return to Ukraine in My 2019 for the presidential elections.

“Saakashvili will return to Ukraine in May 2019, following the presidential elections. He will be actively involved in the country’s political life before the parliamentary elections,” Derevianko said.

Saakashvili was deprived of his Ukrainian citizenship in 2017. He was also expelled from Ukraine to Poland and banned from entering Ukraine until 2021. (By Mariam Chanishvili)
