ISFED report on pre-election environment
“International Society for Fair and Elections and Democracy” (ISFED) stated that the pressure and threat have taken wide-spread and unprecedented forms ahead of the second round of elections.
They noted that they observed a number of cases when teachers and City Hall employees were warned to lose their jobs in case they do not vote for Salome Zurabishvili.
“These facts are pressure and intimidation of the voters, as well as the use of administrative resources because in most cases senior officials carry out such pressure abusing their power," the report says.
The “Fair Elections” report says that the employees of Sagarejo City Hall, including the heads of the City Hall services, have already signed their resignation letters and they were warned to be dismissed in case Salome Zurabishvili did not win the elections.
Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs meets Georgian Diaspora in Brussels
Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, the Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a meeting with representatives of the Georgian Diaspora abroad.
The Minister noted that it is important to strengthen the Georgian Diaspora abroad and ensure their strong connection with their homeland.
The Ministry handed books to Brussels and Antwerp Sunday Schools. The meeting held at the Georgian Embassy in Brussels was attended by members of the Georgian Government.
The members of the Diaspora had a chance to present proposals and recommendations to ensure that the final product meets the Diaspora needs to the maximum extent.
It is worth mentioning that there is currently a total of 84 Georgian Sunday Schools functioning abroad and 11 Georgian language courses attended by up to 3000 children aged 6 to 14. (By Mariam Chanishvili)
