Police Burns Drugs Worth 14 Million Gel

The Georgian Interior Ministry has burned more than one tonne of drugs with a total price of 14 million GEL.
Police says that the narcotic substances which have been seized during 750 cases as evidence included more than two kilograms of heroin, 60 kilograms of amphetamine, 2061 pills of Subutex, 816 pills of MDMA and 189 pills of methadone.
Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia has stated that fighting against drugs is one of the priorities of his body. However, the process is complicated as it needs intensive cooperation with other states.
The ministry has detained dozens of Iranian citizens and Georgian citizens living in the Ponichala district of Tbilisi for drug trafficking.
Police stated that since 1 January 2018 more than 95 drug dealers have been detained.
Gakharia says that the state policy to drug trafficking must be particularly strict.
The current law provides 8-20 and even life sentence for drug trafficking, depending on the number of drugs.
Alongside the country has decriminalized marijuana consumption.
Those lobbying for liberal drug policy say that the government must decriminalize the use of all drugs and support those who wish to give up the drug consumption.
The Georgian Dream lawmakers say that the issue needs caution, with many of them are against of total decriminalization of drug consumption.
