Georgia says that Nicolas Maduro is an illegitimate President of Venezuela as his re-election to the post took place with multiple violations in May 2018.
Georgia also condemned the participation of the representatives of two occupied regions of Georgia Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) in the “so-called inauguration ceremony” on 10 January.
“Georgia has many times revealed its critical position regarding the violation of election and other rights of the Venezuelan people. Georgia joins the international community and condemns the actions which aim to further complicate humanitarian crisis and encourage violence,” the Foreign Ministry says.
“Participation of the de facto leaderships of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) in the so-called inauguration ceremony aims to achieve the legitimation of current occupation of the regions and ethnic cleansing there, and to display the regions as independent republics,” the Foreign Ministry says.
The ministry reports that the occupied regions will never achieve the recognition they wish as the international community is unanimous regarding Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
