Georgia was offered to become an honorable guest country for another important literary platform, Paris Book Fair.
According to the director of the National Book center in Georgia Dea Metreveli, Georgia was offered to be a guest of honor at the annual book event in Paris in 2021.
"The invitation has shown that France listens to Germany - they saw reactions to our programme in Frankfurt and the reviews of the German press on Georgia. I believe their offer is a result of this success," Georgian National Book Centre Director Dea Metreveli told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia has expressed readiness to carry the project out and the process of verification is underway at this stage.
The invitation was followed after the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.
Georgia was represented as the honorary guest at Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.
As a Guest of Honor, Georgia’s special pavilion was opened at the festival, showcased in the theme of the unique Georgian alphabet that was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016.
Georgia – Made by Characters’ was the motto chosen by Georgia and the concept of the stand was based on this theme, adorned with fascinating sculptures of Georgian letters aimed at introducing the country’s culture, history and art through 33 characters of its alphabet.
Paris Book Fair is one of Europe's most important cultural events. The visitors can discover all the French and international publishing houses have to offer, with around 500 stands and shared trading counters.
Paris Book Fair also has several events stages: the Authors’ Stage, the Main Stage, the Little Stage and the Digital Stage. Every year, there are five main themes, including a country and a city represented by a delegation of writers, forming a basis for several cycles of conferences.
