Leaders of Alliance of Patriots don't support autocephaly of Ukraine

Davit Tarkhan-Mouravi, one of the leaders of the Alliance of Patriots and MP Irma Inashvili, another leader of the party addressed the Patriarch and Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church not to support the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.

Inashvili posted the corresponding text on Facebook's personal page.

"Although the Church recognized by the World Patriarchy is declared autocephalous, today the Church has fewer rights than the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Russian Church. In addition, in the future, if the rights of the autocephalous Church of Ukraine will increase, according to the decision of the World Patriarch, both churches will be in the same situation,” reads the statement shared by the leaders of the party.

They also noted that they are concerned about the situation of churches in Sokhumi and Tskhinvali as well as about the Russian church policy.

They consider that the Church of Georgia should treat Ukraine "lawfully" and "fairly" by denying the decision of Constantinople.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has called on patriarchs and archbishops of autocephalous Orthodox churches worldwide to support the granting of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine earlier in January.
