Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) says that the private life video of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party senior lawmaker Eka Beselia was uploaded from the prison in Armenia, by a Georgian citizen, who is serving his term for murder.
MIA stated that the Georgian citizen, D.I. was allegedly using Facebook account under the name of Buba Lomtatidze, through which he illegally released videos showing private life several times.
"The investigation established that Buba Lomtatidze uploaded a video showing other person’s private life to his Facebook page. As a result of cooperation with the Facebook administration and monitoring of the internet space, it became clear that the Facebook account of Buba Lomtatidze was allegedly used by a citizen of Georgia, D.I.,” the ministry said.
The statement reads that D.I. crossed the border of Georgia together with his wife in November 2016.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues cooperation with the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to obtain evidence,” the agency reports.
Eka Beselia is a Former Head of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, who resigned at the end of December. Her personal life video was uploaded in late January, and as the MP claims, it was recorded under the United National Movement (UNM) government.
A total of 17 people have been detained for the circulation of the sex tape with 7 of them ordered to imprisonment by Tbilisi City Court; the rest were released on bail.
Prosecutor’s Office demanded prison sentence to 10 persons, while it urged for the release of 7 people on bail.
The next court sitting into the case will be held on March 27.
