Georgia’s Foreign Ministry says Zalkaliani informed the US Secretary of State about the difficult situation existed in the occupied regions of Georgia and the illegal actions of the Russian Federation.
“Mike Pompeo expressed his readiness and support for the development of defense, security and trade-economic relations between the countries. The cooperation between the countries in the field of defense and security was highly praised. Georgia’s active involvement in global affairs was also emphasized at the meeting,” the ministry said.
According to Zalkaliani, during the conference, the US Secretary of State once again denounced Russian aggression against sovereign states.
“Russia's invasions of Georgia and Ukraine, its unprovoked attack on Ukrainian naval vessels in November and its ongoing hybrid warfare against us and our allies are hindering our security and way of life,” Pompeo said.
Pompeo added that Russia has grand designs of dominating Europe and reasserting its influence on the world stage.
“Vladimir Putin seeks to splinter the NATO alliance, weaken the United States and disrupt Western democracies," he added.
