Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and her Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev discussed the key cooperation points at the meeting in Baku on February 27.
Zourabichvili noted that Georgia and Azerbaijan have been through successes and tragedies in the last centuries, which brought the countries even closer.
“During the last centuries, we have gone through tragedies and we have seen successes as well, we know what it means to build a state. We know the price of moving forward, building a country, developing economy, culture and identity, and we feel very close to each other in all of this,” she said.
The President of Georgia noted that the two countries have implemented many important projects, especially at the beginning of this century.
“In the energy sector we have shown that this region is central and stable, and most importantly, serious investments can be made in this region,” she said.
Zourabichvili added that while discussing many mutual cooperation matters, the opinions and views of the sides mainly coincided.
“I am sure that this visit will be an important step towards the development of relations between our countries,” she said.
Azerbaijan's President also delivered a speech. According to him, Georgia and Azerbaijan support each other’s territorial integrity in all international organizations.
“Our negotiations prove once again that our relations have a good future. Our peoples have stood beside each other for centuries and have always lived in a friendly, brotherly atmosphere. These relations continue to be very important for our states,” he said.
Aliyev added that the political relations of the two countries are at the high level and meetings and consultations are held regularly.
Within the framework of the visit, Georgian President will also meet the First Vice President, the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker of Azerbaijan.
