Political party Girchi (Cone) leader Zurab Japaridze sent emails to the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MPs with the title “Group sex of a politician.”
The fact was confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia. The ministry informs the politicians addressed police when they received emails without opening them.
However, Japaridze claims some MPs opened the file, adding they violated the law. The email did not contain sex footage or any private materials.
MIA says the police reacted as soon as they received a call regarding the emails. The police officers went to the MPs, downloaded the video file and opened it but there was nothing private, just a scene from a film.
Majority MP and the Head of the Legal Issues Committee, Davit Matikashvili accuses Japaridze of disinformation, discrediting and provocation. The MP claims he did not even open the received file. He calls on Japaridze to apologize publicly otherwise he is going to file a lawsuit to the court.
A total of 17 people were detained in early February for the circulation of the sex tape allegedly showing GD senior MP, Eka Beselia.
7 of the detained were ordered to imprisonment by Tbilisi City Court while the rest were released on bail.
Eka Beselia is a Former Head of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, who resigned at the end of December. Her personal life video was uploaded in late January, and as the MP claims, it was recorded under the United National Movement (UNM) government but spread recently to discredit her.
