International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women's rights.
The United Nations began celebrating International Women's Day in the International Women's Year, 1975. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace.
The United Nations, working in partnership with the Government and people of Georgia, strives to support the government and the people of Georgia to achieve prosperity, human rights and wellbeing.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia, which was opened in 2010, is the only diplomatic mission of the Scandinavian countries in Tbilisi.
As mentioned, the event is supported by the governments of Sweden and Norway.
Cooperation between Georgia and the Kingdom of Sweden is developing dynamically both in bilateral and multilateral formats. Sweden’s (co-author of Eastern Partnership Initiative) active support and involvement in Georgia’s European integration process is important. Sweden plays a huge role in promoting the effective implementation of the EaP initiative.
