Number of social workers will Increase in Georgia

Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, David Sergeenko says that the number of social workers will increase this year.
The minister made the statement at the sitting of the Healthcare Committee in the legislative body on March 5.
The Minister spoke about the vision of the ministry in the field of social work activities, the measures taken and the future activities and focused on the importance of social workers in these processes.
"Social work is an important social work, the major implementers of which are social workers and this profession is one of the youngest in our country,” he noted.
Sergeenko listed the main directions of social workers' activities and increased competencies and noted that the Ministry intends to take important measures to improve the working environment of the social workers.
“The number of social workers in 2009 was 171, in 2018 - 244, and in 2019 it is planned to add 50 social workers,” he stated.
The minister touched upon the growing dynamics of funds allocated by the state on social directions and noted that in 2019 for the social rehabilitation and child care program is allocated more than GEL 35 million which has doubled over the years.
“Also, Early development program budget, which amounted to GEL 129 thousand in 2012, is GEL 2 million today,” he added.
The minister said many changes that are planned and that depend on the ministry will be implemented in an accelerated manner.
“The functions of the social workers have become wider during the last years and this will be further widened in order to increase the maximum involvement of the social workers in their field,” he added.
Sergeenko also noted that a month ago there was created a special council, which promotes better communication between the social workers and the state.
“The Council is represented by social workers, Ministry of Health and Social Services Agency. The function of this council is to provide direct feedback and communication with social workers," he said.
