Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze held a special briefing earlier today to speak about the final step of the general plan for Tbilisi.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze named last Friday a historic day, as the Tbilisi City Assembly confirmed a master plan for Tbilisi, a document he assured to be created by all interested parties for the right and consequent development of the capital.
Kaladze said that many problems have been accumulated in Tbilisi over the past 20-25 years, citing chaotic constructions, environmental and transport problems.
“The source of the problems was the absence of a systemic vision and a plan about the city development,” Kaladze said.
He stated that all the problems will not be settled shortly, however, the plan will become the starting point of a new way of development of Tbilisi.
“Time will pass and thanks to the plan Tbilisi will definitely be the city full of life, with settled construction, environmental and transport issues, with high economic activity, where people will be able to live worthily,” Kaladze said.
Working on the general plan, which covers the period until 2030, started in 2015 and 2,8 million GEL was allocated for the creation of the document.
The opposition believes that Tbilisi Mayor’s Office has already allowed such constructions which have made “fatal damages” on the city.
For its part, the current authorities are putting blame onto their predecessors, saying that many of the permits were issued under the United National Movement leadership.
