Ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MP and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy, Roman Kakulia, believes that the salary of a member of parliament should be increased.
Kakulia explains that because of the responsibilities that the Parliament has before the society, GEL 4 thousand-salary is not adequate.
According to him, this is simply his opinion and he is not going to appeal to the parliament for the relevant changes.
“I think that the salaries of the MP should be increased...We have members of Parliament, for whom salaries are really important, but I do not hope they will support the increase in wages because the majority of MPs cannot find the strength to support this decision,” he stated.
The MP made the statement when commenting on the vacancies for the members of the investment board, announced by the Pension Agency.
According to the announcement, the annual salary of a member of the investment board will be $60,000 and travel expenses will be fully covered as well.
Kakulia says he does not see the logic why the salaries of Heads of some state departments are much higher than MPs’.
“It is not relevant. We should think about the adequacy, responsibilities and general commitments to the public in general,” the lawmaker stressed.
