Georgian Wine Export Up by 10%

In January-March 2019 export of Georgian wine increased by 10% which amounted to $47 million.

In the mentioned period, 19.4 million bottles of wine were exported by 148 different Georgian companies to 37 countries after which the income from wine export increased by 16%.

Georgia’s National Wine Agency (NWA) reports that Georgian wine exports increased to Georgian wine strategic markets: Poland - 39% (1032400), China - 23% (1372839), and the USA -165% (182025).

Wine export also increased to European markets: Lithuania - 21% (134376), Estonia - 18% (142112), France - 41% (34170), Sweden - 313% (9000), Bulgaria - 161% (4500) and on traditional and Asian markets: Russia - 15% (13279083), Belarus -36% (317280), Mongolia - 7% (66012) and etc.

The top five wine exporter countries are the following: Russia (13279083), Ukraine (1419222), China (1372839), Poland (1032400), and Kazakhstan (560460).

The top five wines that were exported the most are:

Kindzmarauli - 3677356 bottles
Mukuzani - 1209406 bottles
Tsinandali – 890458
Akhasheni – 422220
Khvanchkara-226072

Moreover, 6 million bottles of Georgian brandy was exported to 14 countries worldwide, that is 74% higher compared to the data of 2018. Exported brandy income amounted to $12.4 (growth 71%).

In addition, 118 bottles of Chacha was exported to 15 countries worldwide which is 170% more than last year. Exported Chacha income amounted to$ 323,000.

In total, income from wine, Chacha, and brandy amounted to $67.73 million which is 4% more compared to the exports from Georgia in January-March 2018.
