Part of the Georgian parliamentarians accuses the Head of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Koba Gvenetadze of avoiding some questions, related to high-profile issues.
The MPs say that on April 5, when Gvenetadze arrived in the parliament to answer the questions of the lawmakers, he [Gvenetadze] decided himself, which ones to answer and which ones not.
Member of the opposition party European Georgia, Giga Bokeria stated the NBG Head “deliberately or unintentionally” rejected some questions. He said the format,in which the MPs ask all the questions they have and the reporter answers them afterward, is ineffective and suggested to continue discussions in question and answer mode, which was not accepted.
Independent MP Davit Tchitchinadze was also dissatisfied with Gvenetadze's responses. He said that the president of the National Bank did not answer more than half of the questions.
“There should be specific answers to the questions that the population is worried about. I did not get the answer. What action should I take?” he stressed.
In addition, MP Levan Gogichaishvili reminded Gvenetadze that the questions that the MPs are asking him exist in the society. According to him, the NBG President is obliged to answer all the questions of public representatives.
“We did not get answers to the questions asked, and there was a simple reason - avoiding unwanted questions…I'm doing my job well because I am the representative of people but how well do you perform the function when you do not answer the questions of people's representatives?” the MP asked Gvenetadze.
Unlike some MPs, Irakli Kovzanadze, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee believes that the NBG Head answered all the questions at the plenary sitting of the Parliament.
“Gvenetadze spoke about all the questions openly and in details,” he said.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze noted that if MPs were dissatisfied by Gvenetadze’s answers, they can express their opinion during the political debates, held at the end of the session.
