The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi has welcomed 90 brand new MAN buses which are 10-meter long and are equipped with modern standard, built-in heating, air conditioning and ventilation, as well as information-sound systems, also, video monitoring systems, USB-chargers and Wi-Fi modems.

The presentation of the buses was opened by the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze in May.

The number of seats is 27 in the new buses carrying up to 82 passengers in total. The transport is also adapted for the people with disabilities and use Euro 6 emission standard fuel.

The Tbilisi City Hall defined 10 routes, where the new buses will be assigned. In the coming days they will appear on N85 and N95 routes. By the end of May, new green buses will replace the amortized yellow buses on the N50, N55 and N71 routes.

The mayor said that in addition to these new 90 green buses, from late 2019 Georgian capital will have new, 8 meter long, 220 eco-friendly ISUZU model buses, which will substitute old yellow buses which are harmful for the environment.

Kaladze noted that the project of renewing of the public transport is underway with the support of the Prime Minister, Mamuka Bakhtadze.

“When implementing such a large-scale project, if you do not have the support from the central government and the prime minister, you cannot do it,” he said.

In addition, the mayor said that next year the City Hall will buy 200 12-meter long buses out of which 100 will be electric ones and 100 will be operating on gas.

Kaladze also mentioned Tbilisi metro project and noted that new carriages will be purchased in order to offer modern and fast transportation to the society.

PM Bakhtadze also delivered a speech at the presentation. According to him, renewing the public transport is one of the main components of the government-initiated green policy.

“Public transport is one of the most important issues to Tbilisi's residents. Today, we have started taking far-reaching steps toward solving this problem once and for all,” he said.

The PM added that the government will increase the budget of the Tbilisi Municipality to replenish the metro rolling stock.

“I promise you that Tbilisi will be a genuinely European city, and we will make sure of that," Bakhtadze emphasized.

Earlier this year Tbilisi Mayor said that in the frames of the bus replacement program, a total of 750 buses will be purchased which will replace the old buses completely and increase the total number of buses in the capital by 200 units.
