By Mariam Chanishvili
Monday, June 10
12th Wine and Spirit Fair will take place on 13-15 June 2019.

The event is organized by Exhibition Center ExpoGeorgia in Tbilisi and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and National Wine Agency of Georgia.

The only international Wine and Spirits Fair in Georgia and the whole Caucasus Region, presents a full range of wine industry, products, and services.

The event provides a unique opportunity for producers and exporters to build success and networking in the New Market of business opportunities.

More than 150 companies from 12 countries will participate in the fair.

Within the fair, on June 11-12, International Wine Competition will take place. The jury, chaired by Tim Atkin, the British Master of Wine, will reveal best wines in several categories. Best wines will receive the highest award "Trophy."

Atkin is an award-winning wine journalist, broadcaster and commentator. He is also a judge of several international wine competitions and a photographer.

Visitors will be able to taste the winning wines at the exhibition. Attendance fee is 10 GEL.

The fair creates a preferable climate for encouraging the formation of a wine cluster in Georgia using the western expertise and machinery, blending of the best of both western and traditional Georgian practices in winemaking. Fair remains an attractive business platform for producers of wine processing equipment.

Georgia exports wine worldwide, while sales have been growing rapidly.

"Georgia is generally considered the 'cradle of wine,' as archaeologists have traced the world's first known wine creation back to the people of the South Caucasus in 6,000 BC. These early Georgians discovered grape juice could be turned into wine by burying it underground for the winter. Some of the Qvevris were buried and could remain underground for up to 50 years," reads the article "Discover the Secret Birthplace of Wine" by National Geographic.

The main areas for winemaking are Kakheti, and its Telavi and Kvareli regions, Kartli, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, and Adjara.
