Unemployment rate is higher for men than for women in Georgia

In quarter II, 2019, the unemployment rate for men is traditionally higher than in women in Georgia.
The recent statistics, released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), read that the unemployment rate is 2.6% higher of men compared to that of women.
Also, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 % point for women in Q2 and by 1.1 percentage point for men compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In addition to this, in the II Quarter of 2019, the employment rate for women remained almost the same, while for men it was increased by 0.6 % compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
However, the economic activity rate is higher for men than for women. In the II quarter of 2019 activity rate for women was 55.3 % and for men - 73.5. The activity rate for women was decreased by 0.4 and 0.2 % for men, compared to the same period of 2018.
In general, in the mentioned period of 2019 year, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 0.7 % compared to the similar period of the previous year and it equaled 11.4 percent. In quarter I, 2019, the unemployment rate amounted to 12.8%.
In Q2 the economically active population constituted 63.7% of the working-age population. Also, in comparison to the same quarter of the previous year, the economic activity rate decreased by 0.3 percentage point, while the employment rate increased by 0.2 %.
The employment rate increased by 0.2 and 0.1% in urban settlements as well as in rural settlements compared to the same period of last year.
Geostat says that in urban settlements the economic activity rate was decreased by 0.2 percentage point compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while in rural settlements - by 0.6%.
In general, the unemployment rate is much lower in rural than in urban settlements. In the II quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in urban settlements was reduced by 0.6 % compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while in rural settlements - by 0.8%.
The statistics also read that the share of hired employees was 50.2 percent among employed persons that is 1.1 percent less compared to the similar period of the previous year.
