De facto government of occupied Tskhinvali region closes so-called border

De facto government of occupied Tskhinvali region decided to close the so-called border for multiple days due to the 11th anniversary of the celebration “Recognition of independence”. According to the so-called state security committee, crossing “border” will be halted from August 25th, 20:00 till August 27th, 6:00.



National Communications Commission comments on pausing of Kurieri transmission

According to the National Commission of Communications, not airing the news program on Rustavi 2 ether doesn’t break the law on broadcasting. They explained, that there’s no record in law about the dates – period, during which it is allowed not to air information program. If Rustavi 2 decides not to broadcast such shows at all, then TV Company will be obliged to modify the franchise. Last time Kurieri – Rustavi 2’s news program aired on 20th of August, when reporters said farewell to the viewers. Since then, Kurieri’s time-net is held by movies. It’s also noteworthy, that new owners of Rustavi 2 fired some of the employees including Nodar Meladze, head of the news program – this resulted in that many journalists, reporters, and employees leaving the channel in the last two days saying they “wouldn’t resume working in the TV Company, occupied by Bidzina Ivanishvili”.



Rehabilitated “Octopus” opens in Batumi

Rehabilitated “Octopus” or cafe “Fantasy” was opened in Batumi Boulevard on August 22nd. The ceremony was attended by PM Mamuka Bakhtadze.

“Octopus” was restored, preserving the old shape and state – to achieve this goal there were old photos used. Starting in May of 2017, rehabilitation was carried out by “Cartu” fund. As administration chairman of the fund, Nikoloz Chkhetiani notes, the expenses on full rehabilitation of the cafe summed up to 3 million gels. According to him, the fund “Cartu” implements many charity projects in Adjara, the common cost of them amount to half a billion.

Cafe “Fantasy” first opened in Batumi Boulevard in 1981, soon becoming the visiting card of the city. The building, dressed in mosaic, was created according to the sketches of architect Giorgi Chakhava and painter Zurab Kapanadze. Painter-restorer Ilia Pesvianidze worked on the rehabilitation of “Octopus.”
