Rustavi City Hall discusses environmental protection, atmospheric prevention and disposal measures

Rustavi Mayor Irakli Tabaghua met with DBA Group expert and GM Management representatives. According to Rustavi City Hall, DBA Group expert Marco Politi presented a detailed presentation to Rustavi Mayor on one of the main directions of the company - modern environmental monitoring systems. At the meeting, they discussed which environmental monitoring system should be used in Rustavi to measure the emission/discharge of harmful substances into the atmosphere at specific locations.

“We had an important meeting with representatives of the international company, DBA Group and experts, who presented the means that will be possible to record in the 21st century with various sensory devices what harmful substances are emitted by enterprises, that will make the work of the relevant ministry easier. There will be 24-hour monitoring. I think the information they have provided and the experience they have shared should be forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture as a recommendation for the 2020 budget to include this equipment,” Rustavi Mayor Irakli Tabagua told reporters.

According to Beso Abashidze, managing partner of GM Management, modern technologies allow polluting the environment to be identified at specific locations, allowing Rustavi to measure airborne harmful emissions, fix emissions directly, and take precautionary measures.

According to Irakli Tabagua, he already provided detailed information to the Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili about the ecological situation in the city.

Government sets up interagency commission to search for missing people from armed conflict

The government has set up an interagency commission to search for and transfer missing persons during the armed conflict. State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili told reporters after the government meeting.

According to the Minister, 10 different agencies will join the commission and its main task will be to conduct intensive and coordinated work to identify the whereabouts or burial of 2300 missing persons.

“I have news from today's Government session - by the decree of the Government of Georgia, an Interagency Commission for the Recovery and Transfer of Missing Persons has been set up, comprising ten different agencies involved in this very important humanitarian process. We can tell you that as a result of the armed conflicts of the 1990s and 2008, about 2500 people are lost. Since 2010, two mechanisms have been operating under the auspices of the Red Cross: the Georgian-Abkhazian and the tripartite Georgian-Russian Ossetian mechanisms, which have so far opened 187 tombs, identified 178 individuals and returned the bodies to their families. However, when compared to a common figure, it becomes clear that 2300 people are still missing. Therefore, we are committed to making our work even more effective, of course, with the Red Cross, which plays a very important role in this process.

The task of this commission is to enable us to conduct the process in a very intense and coordinated manner, especially as the ongoing phase of the Red Cross project continues until the end of 2021 and we want to make the most of this period. We urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of missing persons in armed conflict or who has such a family member and has not yet told the Commission to apply. We reiterate that this is only a humanitarian process that serves to determine the fate of missing persons,” said the minister.
