Fabrika, 'a cultural center in Tbilisi,’located in an old industrial building, became a full member of Trans Europe Halles.
Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is a European network of independent cultural centers initiated by citizens and artists.
Founded in 1983, it currently brings together more than 110 multidisciplinary cultural centers and other cultural organizations from across Europe. Most are located in buildings from industrial heritage and have taken important action in challenging the established cultural policy.
The 88th meeting of the Trans European Halles Association of European Cultural Centers was held in Timisoara, Romania, where Fabrika became a full member of the network. Organized twice a year and hosted by a different member center each time, the TEH meetings are a source of inspiration and a birthplace for new collaborations.
Based in Sweden, it has 127 members in 36 different countries across Europe – from Spain to Ukraine.
THE’s three founding pillars are ‘People, Arts, and Buildings.’
TEH is a platform for international collaboration, sharing of knowledge and experience that positively impacts society through arts and culture.
As one of the goals, Fabrika Tbilisi founders mention the creation of a platform for people in the creative industries for sharing, creating, socializing and exchanging ideas. Located in a former soviet sewing factory in the old historic part of Tbilisi, Fabrika Tbilisi features a unique design and architecture.
“Fabrika became the platform for meeting with a great vibe and prodigious space in Tbilisi to create and share, work, learn, socialize or even have a sleepover. Fabrika has become the symbol of revitalization, recreation and reinvention for Tbilisi,” reads the description of the cultural center on teh.net.
Fabrika Tbilisi features urban style cafes and bars, artist studios, shops, educational institutions, co-working space, hostel, open space courtyard, etc. The fact that it has successfully created the ecosystem of the sustainable economy by carefully chosen residents, activities and well-organized business model, makes it unique.
Fabrika is the first Georgian cultural center in Trans Europe Halles, which means that Tbilisi and Georgia have already been marked on the map of European cultural centers. This unification paves the way for collaboration with various European cultural centers and creative hubs.
