Teacher detained amid accusations of sexual assault to a minor

Locals of Kharagauli Municipality talk about the details of the alleged sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl. The accused teacher is now detained.

The headmaster of the school states that the witnesses are the victim’s classmates. “The 14-year-old girl has accused her teacher of ‘touching her upper parts of the body with his hands’ and the victim has reported the crime to the administration with a written statement. We gave the case a qualification as required by law. This action is punished by law and we have already informed responsible forces.

“The kid is in ninth grade, she is a close family relative, it's possible that the fact that is written in documents never took place, but because the document was written in the first place, I was obliged to inform the police. Classmates have witnessed the scene and of course, kids were questioned as well,” states the teacher of one of the victims.

The family of the accused teacher says that the crime has never occurred and that the victim’s complaint is ‘full of lies.’

“The crime has never happened and touching someone on the shoulder or the cheek is not a crime. He was forced to quit his job and received calls from which they were demanding him to write a statement to do so. He did not want to draw more attention to this, he was planning on quitting anyway and did not try to fight this,” said the family member of the accused teacher.

According to some reports, the 60-year-old teacher and the 14-year-old victim are related.

The teacher was detained on November 8 and the investigation was launched under Article 141, which implies sexual assault against a minor.

More than 100 hospitals fined after inspection

More than 100 out of more than 500 hospitals inspected in four months have been fined, Zaal Kapanadze, director of the State Regulation Agency for Medical Activities told InterpressNews while commenting on the results of complex monitoring of hospitals.

According to Zaal Kapanadze, complex monitoring of hospitals throughout the country is going on intensively. Already more than 500 ambulatory and stationary facilities have been checked for licensing and compliance with technical regulations.

According to him, as a result of the complex monitoring of the hospitals, 7 cases showed signs of criminal offense.

“117 protocols of violation have been created. There are various types of violations related to the management of internal quality systems, disinfection-sterilization, medical waste management, and similar types of violations. There have been a few technical violations - as you know, medical equipment should not be released in late 1997.

More than 100 medical facilities were fined. As for the amount of the fine, when we check, we record the fact of an administrative offense and then the court already sanctions it for each specific case. Law enforcers started studying 7 cases. The inspection revealed some signs that went beyond administrative responsibility. In that case, the law enforcement was informed with specific issues for further study,” said Kapanadze said.

When asked whether these figures are alarming, the director of the State Agency for Medical Activities said that there are some problems with the quality of services offered by medical institutions, but the situation is not alarming. According to him, it is necessary for clinics to work on themselves, as well as the relevant state agencies, and regulation services

Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi: ‘We are announcing it loudly that the transport fare will not be increased’

According to the deputy mayor of Tbilisi Maia Bitadze, after the public transport is fully replaced, the fare will not increase.

“We are loudly announcing that there is no increase in the price of public transport. The state will continue to subsidize public transport, even though we are investing heavily in capital and will continue to do so next year. The state subsidizes subways and buses from 70 to 90 million GEL annually. All the benefits will be maintained in the future and the increase in public transport fares is not on the agenda, although it requires huge capital expenditures, it should be done by the state,” said Bitadze.

According to Bitadze, once the single payment system comes into effect, the fare will be calculated based on what combination the passenger will choose. He said that the hour-long favorable conditions of the trip would still be maintained.
