Tbilisi Baroque Festival 2019

From November 13 to December 13, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra „Georgian Sinfonietta” is organizing the fifth "Tbilisi Baroque Festival". The festival includes concerts, performances and meetings with celebrities.
World-renowned stars are taking part in the festival, such as Davide Amadio (cello, Italy), Sergio Azzolini (bassoon, Italy), Balazs Mate (cello, Hungary), Josep Maria Marti Duran (theorbo, Spain), Daniel Garay Moragues (drums, Spain) ), ensemble Fuoco E Cenere (France), Giorgi Aleksidze Tbilisi Modern Ballet and many others.
Within the framework of the festival interesting meetings are planned in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, in the Art Palace, Vakhtang Chabukiani Memorial House-Museum and Georgian National Museum Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery, Gia Bugadze (November 17), Mariam Aleksidze (November 22), Giorgi Kalandia (November 27), Tamar Chkheidze (December 10) and Giorgi Kekelidze (December 11) lead the meetings.
The Festival concerts are being held at the Rustaveli Theatre Small Stage (November 13, 18, 19, 26. December 1, 3, 7, 13) and at the Royal District Theatre (November 24, 25).
Meeting with Gia Bugadze took place on November 17 at Georgian National Museum Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery.
With the support of "Creative Georgia" within the framework of the festival the new project - "Dance in Baroque Music and Contemporary Choreography - Tbilisi Baroque Festival 2019" is being held.

The “Early Dances” program featured Avison / Scarlatti – Largo from concerto grosso No 5, Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) – Sauvages Les Indes Galantes, Marin Marais (1656-1728)– Chaconne from the opera “Alcyone”, Tarquinio Merula (1595-1665)– Chaconne, Henry Purcell (1659-1695) – aria “Dido’s Lament” from the opera “Dido and Aeneas”, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) – Sarabande from the suite “La Bizarre”, Marin Marais – Prelude, Tempeste and March from the opera “Alcyone”, Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643) – Passacaglia, Jean - Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) – Turkish March, 2 Airs and Canarie from the ballet “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme”, Henry Purcell – Prelude and Monkey Dance from the opera “The Fairy - Queen”, Jean-Philippe Rameau – 2 Rigaudons and Orage from the opera “Platee”, Henry Purcell – The Fairy Queen “If love is a sweet passion”, Jean-Philippe Rameau – Menuet and Contradance from the opera “Les Boreades”.
On November 22, Mariam Aleksidze, artistic director and choreographer of Giorgi Aleksidze “Tbilisi Contemporary Ballet”, is going to talk about a modern rethink and deconstruction of baroque period music and dance and tells about the interpretations of choreography created since neo-baroque till contemporary dance. The event will take place at Vakhtang Chabukiani Memorial House- Museum.
Founded in 2008, Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra – Georgian Sinfonietta aims to deliver the most diverse repertoire at the highest artistic level. The schedule of the orchestra includes performances both in Georgia and Europe, as well as regions of Georgia, where the popularization of chamber music has been a great success.
Since the acquisition of period instruments in 2012, Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra – Georgian Sinfonietta pioneers historically informed performances in the Caucasus.
