Turkey-Georgia Joint Economic Commission in Ankara

After a 14-year pause in the Turkish capital of Ankara, a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission was held.

Georgian and Turkish leaders – Giorgi Gakharia and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, decided on holding the session of the Joint Economic Commission two weeks ago. Representatives of the economic and social government agencies of the two countries attended the meeting, which was last held in September 2005.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava and The Minister of Trade of Turkey, Ruhsar Pekcan co-chaired the session.

It was noted at the meeting that Turkey is Georgia’s number one trading partner, but at the same time, it is important to increase the volume and range of the Georgian export at the Turkish market as well as the overall trade turnover between the countries.

According to NatiaTurnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, negotiations with Turkey on eliminating the technical barriers on exporting the products of animal origin are rather successfully. In addition, the Minister noted that there is a significant potential to increase the volume of exports from Georgia to the EU market through the cooperation of the two countries' business circles.

The signing of a protocol setting out all the main areas of bilateral socio-economic cooperation was held at the end of the session. Particular emphasis was paid to such sectors as trade, transport, logistics, energy, tourism and others. After the signing ceremony, NatiaTurnava said that a document serving the interests of both countries was signed. At the end of the session, NatiaTurnava invited her Turkish counterpart to Georgia.

Georgian Judoist Beka Gviniashvili wins Gold Medal at Osaka Grand Slam 2019

Georgian 24-year-old Judoist Beka Gviniashvili won Gold Medal in the 90KG category at Osaka Grand Slam 2019 held in Japan.

Beka Gviniashvili, who became the first Georgian to win a gold medal at the Osaka tournament after 2015, defeated Uzbekistan's Davat Bobonov in extra time in the final match.

Before the final fight, Beka Ghviniashvili defeated Chinese Hebling Bus, Japanese Mashu Baker, Azerbaijani Mamdali Mehdiyev and Japanese Kenta Gagawa.

Unfortunately, Lasha Shavdatuashvili, Avtandil Chrikishvili and Varlam Liparteliani dropped out of the Osaka competition in the opening matches and were left without a medal.



Protesters padlock Presidential Administration building despite police Resistance

Despite the resistance from police, activists blocked the president's residence. Protesters hung a padlock on the fence.

Activists were met by police at the residence. Law enforcement officials told them they would not be allowed to hang the padlock because the Athonelli residence is a cultural heritage site. And its appearance is an administrative offense and fined up to 1000 GEL.

Opposition parties and activists across the country are blocking administrative buildings. The opposition and their supporters have hung a lock on the door of the Adjara Supreme Council. In addition, the padlocks were placed in the offices of the Bureau of Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and MP Mikheil Kavelashvili. The government's prosecutor's office and prosecutor's office are also "locked down."



‘There is no special mobilization of military equipment on the border’ says State Security Office
