Association “Foreji” opened trout incubation demonstration Tsoniarisi, Keda Municipality

The association “Foreji” opened a trout incubation demonstration farm in the village of Tsoniarisi, Keda Municipality. The initiative is supported by EU and is part of the ENPARD Keda LEADER project implemented by CENN in the municipality.

Within the project, a modern fish incubation demonstration farm has been established. The farm ensures the breeding of healthy and high-quality fish and a sufficient supply of fish-to-fish farms throughout the year.

Implementation of the project will support and promote the optimal use of the water resources of the Adjara region, develop modern fishery standards, provide a sufficient supply of fish to local fish farms and strengthen existing fisheries in the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by: Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Tite Aroshidze, Head of the Agro Service Center, Gocha Beridze, First Vice Mayor of Keda Municipality, Roland Beridze, representatives of the Ajara Chamber of Commerce and local farmers.

“Implementation of this project contributes to the empowerment of local entrepreneurs, introduction of European standards in fisheries and promoting the employment of locals, which is important for the development of the economic potential of the Adjara region,” – stated the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Tite Aroshidze.

“The fish incubation farm is a key component in fish farming. It provides production potential for the fish. Sufficient supply of whitebaits throughout the year provides farmers with increased fish production and replaces imported fish products on the local market. Modern equipment needed for incubation and rearing was purchased with the support of CENN, water supply increased and overall, a trout incubation plant with European standards was established,” – The project beneficiary, Sophiko Diasamidze said.

The incubation farm is the first in Georgia. The project of the association “Foreji” was initiated by local female entrepreneurs and 6 people were employed within the project.

The EU-supported ENPARD project is implemented by CENN in partnership with the Centre for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG), Institute of Democracy (IoD) and the Austrian Institute for Regional Studies and Spatial Planning (OIR). The project aims to diversify local economic activities, improve the investment climate, and empower competitive agricultural and environmental practices in Keda Municipality via bottom-up strategic planning in rural development.

The EU is supporting agriculture and rural development in Georgia through its ENPARD Programme. Implemented since 2013 with a total budget of EUR 179.5 million, the main goal of ENPARD is to reduce rural poverty in Georgia. The first phase of ENPARD in Georgia focused on developing the potential of agriculture. The second and third phases of ENPARD focus on creating economic opportunities for rural populations that go beyond agricultural activities.

Rustavi 2 has requested that ECtHR judgment of 18 July 2019 be referred to Grand Chamber

At its next meeting (Monday, 9 December 2019), a panel of five judges of the European Court of Human Rights will examine three requests to refer the delivered judgments of the European Court to the Grand Chamber.

Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company Ltd has requested that the ECtHR judgment of 18 July 2019 be referred to the Grand Chamber.

Under Article 43 of the European Convention on Human Rights, within three months from the date of a Chamber judgment, any party to the case may, in exceptional cases, request that the case be referred to the 17-member Grand Chamber of the Court.

In that event, a panel of five judges considers whether the case raises a serious question affecting the interpretation or application of the Convention or its protocols, or a serious issue of general importance, in which case the Grand Chamber will deliver a final judgment.

If no such question or issue arises, the panel will reject the request, at which point the judgment becomes final. Otherwise Chamber judgments become final on the expiry of the three-month period or earlier if the parties declare that they do not intend to make a request to refer.

The decisions of the panel will be made public on Tuesday 10 December 2019.
