Construction of skyscrapers near alphabet tower was protested in Batumi

Citizens protested the construction of skyscrapers near the alphabet tower in Batumi and accused Batumi City Hall of negligence.

Citizens and members of civil society have issued a special statement accusing the Batumi City Hall of lying and destroying the city.

“They are destroying Batumi and presenting it to people as development. They get richer, and we get poorer. This place in Batumi isn't for us any longer,” read the statement.

They also demand that the Ministry of Economy does not approve the construction of skyscrapers, yachts, and casinos on the Batumi Riviera.

“Because of the damp weather here, Batumi was designed so that the city had its own sewage system. And today, with this construction, this feature will eventually be removed. Which will increase the number of diseases,” reads the statement.

In order to protect the Riviera area, a youth public movement Green Future was created.

The protest movement, Riviera Against Planned Construction in Batumi, was also announced by the Silk Road Group and the Co-Investment Fund.
