Hearing of Minister of Education at parliament’s plenary session

The hearing of the Minister of Education Science, Culture and Sports, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, was held at the extraordinary plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia within the Ministerial Hour.
In his speech, he stressed the school security issue and emphasized the respective achievements and challenges. Chkhenkeli said that In 2019, the Ministry approved the security and public order regulations for schools.
“It implies high professional training for the persons responsible for school security and enhancement of mental aid services. Our top priority is to ensure the welfare of the children in public or private schools,” noted Chkhenkeli.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry to undertake certain measures and develop the plan. Chkhenkeli stated they are going to introduce the plan with detailed time and terms covering the creation of the legislative, as well as practical initiatives and new services.
The Minister also spoke about the establishment of the new school model, which is going to create the conditions for development of the complex, critical and analytical thinking of the pupils. The program will gradually cover every public school countrywide as of 2023.
Chkhenkeli touched upon the projects and achievements in education, science, culture and sports spheres and answered the questions concerning the education reform, security standards, special pedagogical status, salaries of the pedagogues, personnel, assistants for children with disabilities, facilitation of science.
The co-reporter, Chair of the Education, Science and Culture Committee Genadi Margvelashvili noted that an increase of the GDP index requires the population with high professional ranks.
He hailed the dignified resignation of the pensioner professionals as it may increase the motivation of the young teachers. He also talked about the outcomes of the annulment of the exams for the XI-XII grades and the STEM education problems.
According to him, the educational cities shall be equipped with high laboratory tech parks.
“The process in Digomi, Tbilisi is to be soon finalized. Now, Batumi is announced as an educational city as well. We discussed that it is in compliance with the historical experience of the city and the region and with the international Olympiads for the future and naturally, with the recruitment of the personnel for Kutaisi International University,” noted Margvelashvili.
As Margvelashvili noted, the Committee expresses commitment for participation in all the issues, recognition of informal education, the establishment of a healthy lifestyle in schools and free and professional membership of the pupils and students in the world.
