Priest accused of threatening his wife with physical abuse to be sent to Monastery, Patriarchate of Georgia rules

Priest Luka Chikovani, accused of threatening his wife Nino Gorgoshidze, a mother of their five children, is ruled by the Patriarchate of Georgia to be sent to the Monastery as a punishment for his violent actions towards his wife.

According to the Patriarchate of Georgia, the priest will be sent to Monastery for repentance. They have yet to decide which Monastery will he go to and how long will Chikovani stay there.

The wife, Nino Gorgoshidze, accused her husband, Luka Chikovani of threatening with physical abuse. She also accused Police of inaction and her father-in-law, a priest, of covering for his son.

As it was revealed, the priest had ten restraining orders from the police. On January 10, Prosecution Office charged Chikovani with 3000 GEL bail.



Shooting in front of Bassiani club

One person, Bidzina Chachkhiani has been detained for wounding three people at the shooting in front of the club ‘Bassiani’. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports the incident:

“The investigation revealed that the detainee fired shots at the entrance of club ‘Bassiani’ on January 12 this year, injuring three people.” the statement reads.

The case is being investigated under Article 19-109 (3 and a) and Article 236 (3 and 4), an attempted killing of more than two persons and illicit possession of an uncertified weapon, based on which the detainee will be facing 9-20 years or life imprisonment.

The shooter has a criminal history, he was jailed in 2010 for damaging another person’s property and was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment but he was later pardoned by the current government. According to witnesses, the man was asked to leave the club due to his aggressive behaviour before the shooting. Reportedly, the lives of wounded 3 persons are not under the risk and they remain in hospital.
