Ombudsman’s report does not iden¬tify money laundering in Khazaradze-Japaridze case

In Tbilisi City Court, TBC bank co-founders Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze and Avtandil Tsereteli’s de¬fence presented the ombuds¬man’s inference. According to lawyer Zviad Kordzadze, the inference reads that the ombudsman did not identify money laundering in the case.

According to the lawyer, the ombudsman has been studying the case for several months and has prepared 13-page report paper, according to which, “It is clear that the substantiation of the charges against Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze does not comply with the conventional content, structure and specific purposes of the illicit income legalization.”

Ombudsman has published the friend of the court (Amicus Curiae) paper on the official website. According to the document, the case file does not contain the elements nec¬essary to make the action a criminal offense.

Tbilisi City Court is holding a trial of Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze case since 2019. They are being charged for laundering 16 664 000 USD and businessman Avtandil Tsereteli for help¬ing the crime. Both Japaridze and Khazaradze deny money laundering.
