The novel Coronavirus continues to spread in Georgia. The new Republican Hospital of Batumi is one of them. Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia visited the hospital and observed the process of furnishing the building with equipment together with the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs Ekaterine Tikaradze and Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze.
The medical facility was already presented with nine artificial respiration devices, which are essential for the treatment of severe cases of infection. The hospital will be outfitted with medical equipment and beds in the coming days, after which it will be fully prepared to receive patients.
The full equipment of the new clinic will be completed by the end of April and it will be able to serve up to 170 patients at a time. The hospital provides severe patients with medical services in all areas.
According to the prime minister's assessment, the Autonomous Republic of Adjara is prepared to manage and control the virus, in case of necessity. Four clinics have been mobilized in the region of Adjara to manage patients infected with the coronavirus, as well as patients with fever.
As for the number of hospitals in the rest of the country, the figure stands at 63, of which 32 medical institutions will become involved in the program gradually in line with the dynamics of the development of the coronavirus itself.
During his visit in Batumi, the Prime Minister also visited the Medemergency Clinic in Batumi. Gakharia noted that the activation of the primary healthcare system is of the utmost importance since the country has entered the phase of community transmission of the virus. Correspondingly, this is precisely why so-called fever centers, which are designed to receive fever patients, are being opened throughout the entire country.
The Medemergency clinic is fully equipped with appropriate medical hardware, all types of equipment required by doctors, and personal protective equipment, able to receive 50 patients at the same time.
Two fever centers have already been earmarked in the region of Adjara. Patients will be relocated to the appropriate medical facility if tested positive for COVID-19. Two hospitals in Batumi and Kobuleti have been earmarked specifically for patients with the Coronavirus.
