At the briefing held on April 6th, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava discussed the topics surrounding the current challenges of the tourism sector. Among the diversity of predictions and expectations, she finds it difficult to make any accurate prognosis, as the situation is dependent on the global market.
According to Turnava, the tourism sector was the first to be influenced by the global condition but as for today, the crisis has engulfed the overall economy.
As soon as the country is able to say that we are safe and have managed to overcome the disease, inner tourism might revive easily, however, the major contributors in the industry are foreigners- it is a multilateral process that demands global support.
Under the instruction of the Prime Minister, the coordination council elaborates the plan of post-crisis revival and stimulation that will enable the economy to start running again as soon as the main threat fades away.
“We are dependent on the global condition. The business sector, as well as the economy in general, is being damaged; that is why we try our best to weaken and neutralize the impact on the business and fight the virus,” Turnava said.
The minister pointed out that Georgia takes timely steps to deal with the global challenge, the Coronavirus, claiming that the government will do its utmost to recover the economy.
