NATO Says to Strengthen Relations with Countries Aspiring to Join
NATO says their security and the security of the nations who want to join the Alliance are intertwined. According to the new NATO Strategic Concept, the alliance firmly supports their independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Alliance reiterates the decision made at the Bucharest Summit in 2008 and all subsequent decisions regarding Georgia and Ukraine, according to the news strategic concept.
“We will strengthen political dialogue and cooperation with those who aim to join the Alliance, help strengthen their resilience against malign interference, build their capabilities, and enhance our practical support to advance their EuroAtlantic aspirations. We will continue to develop our partnerships with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia and Ukraine to advance our common interest in Euro-Atlantic peace, stability and security. We reaffirm the decision we took at the 2008 Bucharest Summit and all subsequent decisions with respect to Georgia and Ukraine,” reads the document.
PM Gharibashvili Meets European Council Charles Michel
Irakli Gharibashvili, the prime minister of Georgia, met with Charles Michel, the head of the European Council.
During the meeting, which was held as part of the Prime Minister's visit to Madrid the issue of Georgia's European perspective received special emphasis, the Government Administration's press service reported. The Prime Minister said it was a historic choice to give Georgia a European perspective. As a result, the European Council and the presidents of the EU's member states endorsed Georgia's membership in the EU as its future.
The Head of Government stated that Georgia will aggressively seek to put the European Commission's suggestions for awarding candidate status into action.
The Prime Minister asserts that Georgian citizens, not just any administration, made the decision to join the European Union. Charles Michel was thanked by Irakli Gharibashvili for his support of Georgia's European viewpoint and for Georgia's individual efforts toward European integration.
