OSCE/ODIHR and Venice Commission reps hold meetings in Parliament regarding Election Code.

Representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Venice Commission held meetings in Parliament regarding the electoral code.

The members of the OSCE/ODIHR and Venice Commission met with the representatives of the parliamentary opposition groups, as well as the head of the electoral code revision working group, the member of the parliamentary majority, Givi Mikanadze.

As the deputies noted after the meeting, the guests heard their opinions regarding the election code, which was related to the issue of the threshold, as well as electronic elections, which the opposition believes to be unclear if electronic elections are held in only 70 percent of the population. The opposition also raised the issue of delaying the election of the CEC chairman as a problematic issue.

At the meeting, they also introduced the alternative version of the election code to the members of the OSCE/ODIHR and the Venice Commission and expressed their concern that despite their willingness to reach an agreement with the majority and adopt a common document, "the authorities do not want to share their vision".

As for the position of the majority, as Givi Mikanadze noted, the meeting gives a reason to say that the conclusion of the Venice Commission regarding their document will be positive. According to him, the majority is also waiting for recommendations from the Venice Commission on what can be improved in the bill.
