Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili Meets with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin

During a working visit, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, met with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, in Berlin.
According to the government administration, during the meeting, Gharibashvili briefed Scholz on Georgia's advancements towards European integration, highlighting the implemented reforms and notable progress made in fulfilling the 12 recommendations put forth by the European Commission.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the significance of granting Georgia the status of a European Union member. He expressed that Georgia is eagerly awaiting the candidate status by the end of the year.
"At the meeting, the Prime Minister also noted that for Georgia, both the political and practical support of the member states are critically important for the next stage of the country's accession to the European Union.
According to the head of the government, the federal chancellor always openly supports Georgia's European integration, for which Irakli Gharibashvili thanked Olaf Scholz.
The close partnership and friendly relations between the two countries were also noted at the meeting. The parties discussed the security environment in the region and the world. The conversation also touched on Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration and the progress achieved in recent years," stated the press service of the government.
Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Gharibashvili, took to Twitter to express satisfaction with his meeting with Olaf Scholz. Gharibashvili mentioned that their discussion focused on Georgia's progress in the European Union accession process and the importance of further enhancing the already strong partnership between the two countries.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Federal Republic of Germany for its unwavering support of Georgia's integration into the European Union and expressed confidence that the relationship between the two nations would strengthen further due to Georgia's significant achievements.
The German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, also wrote about the meeting between Irakli Gharibashvili and Olaf Scholz, confirming Scholz's support for Georgia's path to the European Union on his official Twitter page.
The ambassador affirmed Germany's continued support for Georgia's path to the European Union and emphasized the need for swift and determined reform steps in the coming weeks. Additionally, the ambassador highlighted Germany's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty within internationally recognized borders, particularly in light of the security implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
