Chairman of Georgian Dream Questions Impeachment Outcome Amidst Opposition Support for President

Mamuka Mdinaradze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream, expressed the belief that the impeachment procedure would likely yield no results, citing the reactions of the opposition and their support for the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who is accused of violating the constitution by the ruling party.

According to Mdinardze, regrettably, the President of Georgia's violation of the highest law of the country will be recorded in history. He also mentioned that they have not yet gathered the required 50 signatures, but they plan to hold a majority meeting on Monday, where they expect to obtain far more signatures than the 50 needed.

"After learning about the President's serious violation of the Constitution of Georgia, we can honestly say that, following two days of careful consideration and discussions within the political council, we have ultimately decided not to let this matter go without a response. We are fully aware that our efforts may not yield immediate results, given the reactions we've witnessed from our opponents who have shielded the individual responsible for this constitutional breach. They have effectively become accomplices in this violation.

However, we firmly believe that a violation of the Constitution by the President, who should be the primary guardian of our nation's highest law, cannot go unanswered. Our response involves debating and subsequently initiating the impeachment process. While we have not yet secured the required 50 signatures, we are confident that during our majority meeting on Monday, we will gather significantly more signatures than needed. It is regrettable that this chapter in which the President of Georgia violated our country's most sacred law will be recorded in history," said Mdinaradze.
