Georgia and U.S. Discuss High-Tech Investment and Middle Corridor in Washington

Georgian Dream Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia met with top officials at the U.S. Department of Commerce to discuss expanding economic ties and high-tech cooperation. The meeting included Under Secretary for International Trade William Kimmitt and Under Secretary for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler. Ambassador Tamar Taliashvili also attended the session.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "The parties discussed the development of Georgia-US partnership in the areas of transport and logistics, regional trade, digital technologies, artificial intelligence and innovation." The conversation specifically addressed ongoing infrastructure projects and prospects for further cooperation.
A major part of the discussion focused on Georgia's strategic position in global trade. "Attention was focused on Georgia's role in the development of the Middle Corridor," the Ministry's statement noted. This trade route is seen as a vital alternative for moving goods between Asia and Europe through the Caucasus.
The Ministry also reported that "the parties discussed the readiness of the US to implement investments in the high-tech sector." This potential investment is intended to support the development of the Middle Corridor while boosting Georgia's standing in the digital economy.
This meeting followed earlier talks at the U.S. State Department, where the Georgian delegation reiterated its desire to renew the strategic partnership. In a separate statement, the Ministry noted that "the Georgian delegation once again underscored its readiness to reset relations with the United States and highlighted the importance of renewing the strategic partnership." While these meetings focused on economic and technical cooperation, they occurred amidst broader diplomatic efforts.
Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has publicly stated that Georgia wants to "start afresh with the United States, guided by a specific and pragmatic roadmap." The U.S. side reaffirmed its "unconditional support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity" during these visits.
