Kobakhidze Claims Helsinki Commission Follows 'Deep State' Direction

Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has accused the U.S. Helsinki Commission of acting as a tool for a global deep state aimed at undermining Georgia's national interests. Speaking to reporters on February 5, Kobakhidze referenced reports from an American journalist who allegedly exposed the commission as being compromised by foreign forces and working against Donald Trump's peace initiatives.

Kobakhidze stated that the Helsinki Commission is very actively pursuing the so-called "deep state" direction and that all this is very clearly visible in the example of Georgia. According to Kobakhidze, the commission has been used as the main tool against the country's interests.

"It is absolutely logical," Kobakhidze said. "The example of Georgia shows what processes are developing in the Helsinki Commission. You remember that in the United States of America the Helsinki Commission was used as the main tool against the interests of Georgia. Joe Wilson was specifically involved in this. All this was exposed by the information that was spread in the United States of America. Everyone sees that the Helsinki Commission is very actively pursuing the so-called "deep state" line. This is also very clearly visible in the example of Georgia."

Kobakhidze emphasized that the information spreading in the United States highlights how the commission has been compromised. He maintains that the actions of figures like Joe Wilson prove that the organization is working against both Georgian interests and specific American peace initiatives.

Maritime Agency Denies 'Suspicious' Status of Tanker in Kulevi Port

The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency has issued a statement calling the information spread by the group iFact about a ship named SILVAR (IMO 9291262) completely untrue. The agency described the report as another piece of disinformation and part of a larger campaign against the state. They insist that the vessel operates within a legal and controlled system, with a verified owner and operator. The ship is also registered with Lloyd's Register in the UK and carries valid insurance.

According to the agency, the ship passed a safety inspection in Denmark on December 5, 2025, and was not detained. They also conducted their own multi-level check and found that the vessel is not under any sanctions or legal restrictions from the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, or European Union.

The agency noted that throughout 2025, the ship is scheduled to visit ports in Egypt, Singapore, India, South Korea, China, and Russia.
