Georgia Expresses Deep Concern Over Middle East Strikes
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia issued a statement late on February 28, confirming that it is closely monitoring the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The announcement followed a day of significant military activity, including joint strikes by the United States and Israel on targets within Iran, which were met by retaliatory attacks from Tehran across the region.
The Ministry described the situation as a matter of deep concern for the Georgian government.
"We emphasise the importance of diplomatic efforts to achieve de-escalation and ensure stability in the region," the statement said.
The current unrest began after the U.S. and Israel targeted leadership and military sites in Iran. In response, Iranian forces launched strikes against locations in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait, focusing on areas where the U.S. and its allies maintain military bases.
In light of the volatility, the Ministry urged Georgian nationals currently in the affected areas to prioritize their safety.
"We advise Georgian citizens to follow the official guidance and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety," the MFA stated.
Officials also confirmed that diplomatic support remains available for those abroad. The Ministry noted that Georgian embassies throughout the region "remain fully operational and ready to assist Georgian citizens as needed."
Iran Embassy in Georgia Condemns Strikes and Plans Evacuations
The Embassy of Iran in Georgia released a declaration following the February 28 joint military operations by Israel and the United States against Iranian territory. The statement described the strikes as an attack on the country's "territorial integrity and sovereignty."
The Embassy asserted that the Iranian people remain resilient despite the escalation.
"The Zionist regime of Israel, with the support of the United States, has once again carried out a brazen attack against our ancestral homeland-Iran, its territorial integrity and sovereignty; however, the Iranian people have always stood firmly and united during the greatest historical trials," the declaration stated.
The statement also issued a warning regarding the consequences of the military action, noting that "repeating experience is a mistake."
In addition to the political condemnation, Ambassador Seyed Ali Mojani announced that the embassy is preparing to assist Iranian nationals who are currently in Georgia and wish to return home. These efforts come as direct flights have been disrupted following the strikes.
"The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Georgia plans to take appropriate measures to evacuate those citizens who, due to the blatant aggression of the Zionist regime and the absence of direct flights, are unable to return to their homeland in a timely manner," the statement said.
