Eight defendants charged in connection with the October 4, 2025 election-day unrest have accepted plea agreements, with seven released from custody after the Tbilisi City Court approved the deals on June 9. The eighth defendant, Eva Shashiashvili, had previously been released on bail for health reasons.

"The eight defendants admitted to committing the crime, expressed remorse, and submitted applications to us," Prosecutor Roin Khintibadze said. "Each of the eight was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, which was suspended subject to a three-year probation period."

The plea agreements are part of a broader trend in the election unrest cases. Prosecutors announced on June 2 that seven defendants in a separate case involving 12 people had also admitted guilt and agreed to plea deals, while six more defendants entered negotiations on June 8.

Several other defendants continue to deny the charges and have not been offered plea agreements.

The cases stem from unrest on October 4, 2025, when protesters attempted to occupy the presidential residence in Tbilisi following municipal elections. Dozens of people were charged in connection with the events, which Georgian Dream officials described as a foreign-backed coup attempt.

The first convictions in the case were handed down on May 7, when a court sentenced a group of politicians and activists to multi-year prison terms.
