Trump Says He Looks Forward to Strengthening Cooperation With Georgia in Letter to Kobakhidze

The Georgian Dream government administration has published a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, in which Trump thanks the Georgian leader for his Independence Day message and says he looks forward to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The administration released the letter in Georgian. An English-language version has not been made public.
According to the published text, Trump thanked Kobakhidze for congratulating the United States on the 250th anniversary of its independence, describing the occasion as a celebration of the country's founding values and saying the U.S. values partners that share those principles.
On bilateral relations, Trump said cooperation between Washington and Tbilisi could advance sovereignty, security and prosperity.
"I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful message. By working together to support sovereignty, security, and lasting prosperity, we can achieve meaningful progress. I look forward to strengthening our cooperation so that we can move together toward a safer, more prosperous, and more peaceful future."
The letter comes as the Georgian Dream government continues to call for a reset in relations with Washington.
The United States suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia in November 2024, and later sanctioned Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili. The Trump administration has not reversed either decision.
Kobakhidze reiterated his government's position during a U.S. Independence Day reception at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi on July 1, where he proposed restoring the strategic partnership through a roadmap setting out shared priorities, practical mechanisms for cooperation and long-term objectives.
"Despite the challenges that have emerged in recent years, we remain convinced that the time has come to reboot our strategic partnership through a roadmap that sets our shared priorities, practical mechanisms for cooperation, and clearly defined strategic objectives," Kobakhidze said.
He also said Georgia is ready for direct dialogue with the United States to define common priorities and deepen bilateral cooperation.
