Georgia's First Lady Participates in Kyiv Summit for First Time
Georgia's First Lady Tamar Bagrationi took part in the sixth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv via video message, marking Georgia's first participation in the annual event.
According to Georgia's Presidential Administration, Bagrationi congratulated Ukraine and its people on the 35th anniversary of independence and wished the country peace, prosperity and progress. She also reaffirmed Georgia's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In her address, Bagrationi spoke about Georgia's experience and the importance of preserving national values for the stability of the state.
She said Georgian identity was rooted in seven principles: God, homeland, people, language, land, faith and family.
Bagrationi also described the family as an important foundation of Georgia's historical continuity.
"Love of the homeland and God begins precisely with the family," she said, according to the statement.
'Delegation' From Occupied Abkhazia Visits Syria
A "delegation" from Georgia's Russian-occupied Abkhazia region, led by de facto Foreign Minister Oleg Bartsits, is visiting Syria, according to the de facto Abkhaz authorities.
The group was received in Damascus by Muhammad Ali, whom the Abkhaz side identifies as its "Ambassador to Syria." It also includes the de facto ministers of culture and finance and Abkhazia's de facto representative in Turkey, Ibrahim Avidzba.
The "delegation" will attend the 63rd Damascus International Fair, which runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4, and is expected to meet Syrian officials and representatives of the Abkhaz-Adyghe diaspora.
Syria under Bashar al-Assad recognized the so-called independence of Abkhazia and Georgia's Tskhinvali region in 2018. Georgia subsequently severed diplomatic relations with Syria.
After Assad's overthrow, Georgian Dream officials said in June 2025 that they had asked Turkey to help persuade Syria to reverse its recognition of the two Russian-occupied Georgian regions.
